(Spoiler alerts to those who haven't read/saw the movie.)
The Fault In Our Stars, a novel by John Green is such a phenomenon especially nowadays and its motion picture was already released. The novel itself is just brilliant and very moving about love and life which talks about two cancer patients who fell in love with each other. John Green makes me wonder of how did he just make such an amazing novel and how his brain works for he is a genius.
I finished the book two weeks before the month of May ends. I even dealt with spoilers which makes me irritated but still I read the book. It wasn't hard for me to catch up with the novel though because I already read an excerpt of it from the novel, Paper Towns which John Green also wrote.
When I read the book, I can say all the reviews and comments about the book WERE REALLY TRUE. It was so heartbreaking and very moving. It's like all the words written in the book were naturally coated with TRUTH. The book's like a gun firing my heart with every word that is written by John Green.
So the story runs with a cancer patient named Hazel Grace Lancaster, who apparently had a thyroid-thing cancer but went to her lungs and fed up with water so that explains her tube connected always in her nose and her oxygen tank that she always rolling up. Hazel as a character was a brave one. She's not like those other characters that was shy-type and has a soft-heart woman but she's brave and has a firm stand with her words. She has a dignity and strong spirit. And then, she goes to this Support Group, where they gather in a literally heart of Jesus and where she met Agustus Waters.
Agustus Waters, or Gus, like Hazel was very brave and cheerful. He just lights up the world with his crooked smile. He's also a cancer patient and it's in his bones however, he's been negative to it for a few years already. He went to that Support Group, where he accompanied his friend, Isaac who's been suffering a cancer in his eyes. There he met Hazel and had his interest in her.
Gus, who feared oblivion, was been very keen to metaphors. He even had this smoking metaphor which makes him more hot and interesting. Apparently, Hazel has this addiction to a novel entitled An Imperial Affliction by Peter Van Houten and desperately wanted to know what happens to the characters after that mid-sentence ending in the novel which also she influenced Gus. Gus, who's already into novel helped Hazel to know what's the answers in her questions about the novel and took her in Amsterdam where Van Houten resides.
Hazel was the one who expected she'll die. She already foresaw that she'll die in the end and as much possible she wanted to decrease whoever will be hurt when she die. However, the tables turned. Gus' cancer was revived and he died. Seriously, that made my heart swell.
I've already read a few stories just like TFIOS, that there's sick and there will be dying. It's a struggle however, you can learn so many things about it. About love and life. This novel may be classified as romance teen novel but for me, it's just more than that. This is just not a typical cheesy novel that will make you dream of yours but it teaches you about lessons of love and life---metamorphic reasons and symbols, its importance and how life is just simply beautiful. It also teaches you the leason of the IMPORTANCE OF A PERSON even HE'S NOT DEAD because sometimes we're like that, we'll just give importance or give attention or care to the person when he's already dead, when it's already too late.
For me, the most hurtful scene is when Gus went to the gasoline station, struggling just to buy a pack of cigarette and frustrated he can't. And he cried knowing he can't do a thing anymore even just for himself. Truly it is frustrating when can't do what you love especially doing it for yourself or for you to be happy. Even myself, whenever I can't find the right words when I write, I feel frustrated and useless. Feeling it's the least I can do however I can't. It's a hell heartbreaking.
I didn't cry so much while reading the book but my heart swells every time I read. Chest pains everywhere because of the truth that lies in every word that is written by the brilliant author, especially when it is about life. It just me wonder how this became a FICTION when you feel it is REAL? For I read the author's note of John. And the fact that is makes me happy. Wishing I could fly my imagination so high and write such a good fiction. That also means, John Green is really I genius. The book itself is a worth wasting a highlighter. I think every page of my copy has a highlight, which proves the book touched my heart big time.
I've already watched also the motion picture together with my classmates. I really love the movie because it's exactly in the book though there are some changes but still, IT'S SO GOOD! I'm happy that they haven't changed the movie a lot from the book for it will cause murdering the book. Hahaha.
The funny thing when I watched the movie is that I was the one who actually reacts first especially a heartbreaking will be shown already. I'm like, "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, NO. OH MY GOD. OMG, OMG." or like "OMG! THAT! OH MY GOD NO PLS OH MY GOD" and then cover my eyes or mouth then sob. Hahahaha. I'm so emotional, swear! I felt like I let out all the chest pains I suffered while I read book in crying so much in the movie. Hahahaha. My payment in the ticket was worth it like my book.
Over all, both the book and movie was great. Can't explain enough through words. Another book just introduced what life is. I learned so many lessons in the book and I super love it, also the movie. Ansel is so hot also Shailene is so gorgeous. ;)
P.S I just wanted to say that for all those who watched the movie and haven't read the book, PLEASE READ THE BOOK ITSELF! You'll understand more the story. :)
