Finally the country makes a scene on the International Volleyball court after eight years with its finest and elite talented volley belles. The team, that was introduced as ‘Fibr Power Pinays’, hitting the court for the Philippine’s pride for the Asian Volleyball Championship held at Nakhor Ratchasima, Thailand. The team tries to spikes our standing up against four countries for a chance to qualify to Sea Games.
The elite team was fuelled by young and never-say-die players. The Power Pinays were composed of seventeen aspirants and six officials but were still rolled and selected only twelve that will make up the final line-up and the five that were cut will still continue to train. Here’s the final roaster (in alphabetical order): #12 Joy Benito-outside, #18 Mich Datuin-middle, #3 Jheck Dionela-libero, #7 Wenneth Eulalio-middle, #14 Tatan Gata-Pantenople-libero, #16 Danika Gendrauli-opposite/outside, #6 May Macatuno-setter, #1 Aiza Maizo-Pontillas-opposite, #17 Chie Saet-setter, #10 Pau Soriano-middle, #2 Angge Tabaquero-outside (Team Captain) and lastly #15 Royse Tubino-middle. The ones who will continue to train with the team: Arriane Argain-setter, Angela Benting-outside, Faye Guevara-opposite/middle, Sandra de los Santos-middle and Rosemarie Vargas-outside.
The team was headed with Coach Nes Pamilar and supported by the leading broadband network PLDT Home-Fibr Broadband through its head president MVP (Manny V. Pangilinan) who has an advocacy in leading the country’s youth development and sports excellency that lead him to this act.
The Philippines first joined the AVC way back 1983 and it is the country’s eighth-time to join in the international competition. Coach Pamilar revealed that this tournament will be a tough one for them for it was a comeback for the country on the international volleyball scene. Pamilar also stated that the team worked hard and tried different try-outs and held through intensive trainings to shape up everyone in the team.
Pamilar was thankful for the support given by the network company and confessed that this support was one of the needs of the Philippine team and this development of ours make us excited for the future of the Philippine Volleyball. #
