Davao del Norte won its right to host the 2014 Davao Athletic Regional Association (DAVRAA) Meet in a recent bid during a DAVRAA board meeting at the Department of Education Regional Office. It was confirmed by the Davao del Norte provincial sports coordinator Giovanni Gulanes to a certain local Davao daily newspaper, the Sun Star.
Davao del Norte conquest Mati City, which was also, manifests enthusiasm to host the regional qualifying for the Palarong Pambansa during the votation. Considering Mati, Gulanes said Davao del Norte Governor Del Rosario, however, made the board to grant Mati City to host for the 2015 Palarong Pambansa instead. “Governor Del Rosario wanted to return the favor to Mati which gave way for the province to host the 2013 DAVRAA meet,” Gulanes stated in connection on the issue in hosting the event.
Mati and Del Norte had been taking seriously the hosting of such events. Gulanes revealed that in 2012, former Mati City Mayor Michelle Rabat expressed her eagerness to host the 2013 Palarong Pambansa, however, Mayor Rabat drew back her bid for the votation when Gov. Del Rosario revealed also his interest in hosting the event.
Gulanes also confessed that the DAVRAA board was been impressed by the province’s hosting this year, adding: “The multimillion modern and standard sports facilities of the province was also a major factor that made the province win the bidding.”
Davao del Norte hosted as well as the recently-concluded Batang Pinoy Mindanao Qualifying Leg. The province won also the hosting rights for the 2014 National Private Schools Athletic Association Championship. #
